Description
Natalie and I went with Mongongongam down to the water to learn a few culture events at once. That was set up. When we got there, Saron and Angondi's daughter were already there. They were washing insides of a pig that was killed yesterday and also washing some pots and clothes.
To wash the clothes, they are made wet under the stream and then rubbed together on the hands and on a stone. Also the clothes are put together in a lump and hit on a stone. In the meanwhile they are made wet. They are wrung out by hand at the end. They are not put in a bag but just carried up to the house and put in the sun to dry. We hung them on our own line outside.
We were washing Bebeline's nappies. Mongongam said that usually when she wets them, they are just put in the sun to dry, only after she poops in them they will be washed.
