Description

I sat at a fire in Soso's house and Nambi told the stories.

Nambi told me in Pidginː Spirits can be seen in dreams. They used to visit their ancestors and tell them when they had caught something in a trap. If they didn't catch anything, they would try to appease the spirit by making their own old umbilical cord wet and licking it. (The small part of the umbilical cord that falls off the baby is boiled and kept).

The first catch in a trap is burned completely offering it back to the spirits. The second catch only the liver is offered and the man eats the meat. The third catch is brought back to the family.

Even today Soso said that when a baby laughs or cries for no apparent reason they say he saw, or is playing with a spirit.
